Privacy Policy for Kobo Transfer

This policy applies to the Kobo Transfer iOS app and related website pages at kobo-transfer.vercel.app.

1. Overview

Kobo Transfer helps you move books and documents from your iPhone or iPad to your Kobo eReader, either over your local Wi-Fi network or by USB. We built it to keep your data private and under your control.

2. Data We Collect

No Accounts or Analytics

• We do not require user accounts.
• We do not use ad trackers.
• We do not collect analytics tied to your identity.
• We do not sell your personal data.

Book and Device Data

• Your book files and metadata are managed on your device and Kobo.
• During wireless transfer, your device hosts a temporary local server so your Kobo can download files directly.
• During USB transfer, files are copied directly to your connected Kobo drive.

3. Optional Metadata Lookup

If you enable metadata sync, Kobo Transfer can query third-party metadata providers (such as Open Library or Google Books) to improve title, author, cover, and related metadata.

• Only the query data needed for lookup is sent (for example title, author, or ISBN).
• This network request goes directly from your device to the selected provider.
• These providers have their own privacy policies.

4. What We Do Not Do

• We do not upload your library to our own cloud.
• We do not read, inspect, or moderate your book content.
• We do not run background data collection unrelated to app functionality.

5. Permissions and Local Storage

• The app may request file access so you can import/export books you choose.
• App settings and local library metadata are stored on your device.
• You can remove app data by deleting the app and its local files.

6. Terms Relationship

Your use of Kobo Transfer is also governed by the Terms of Use, including legal responsibilities for content you add to or transfer with the app.

7. Children's Privacy

Kobo Transfer is a utility app and does not knowingly collect personal information from children.

8. Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy as the app evolves. When we do, we will update the effective date on this page.
