Kobo Transfer: App Tour & Troubleshooting
A quick walkthrough of the app plus troubleshooting for both Wireless and USB transfer modes.
1. Quick App Tour
Library Tab
- Import EPUB/PDF files from your device.
- Edit metadata (title, author, cover, tags).
- Search metadata providers and review metadata differences.
Transfer Tab
- Choose Wireless to transfer over local Wi-Fi.
- Choose USB for direct cable transfer and shelf management.
- Use the built-in guide to decide which transfer mode fits your use case.
Settings Tab
- Configure metadata provider and sync behavior.
- Set transfer options like pairing code requirement.
- Open the in-app tour and privacy policy.
2. Wireless Transfer (Wi-Fi)
Quick Start
- Open Transfer and choose Wireless.
- Tap Start Transfer Server.
- On your Kobo, open the web browser.
- Enter the URL shown in the app.
- Download selected books from the Kobo browser page.
Troubleshooting (Wireless)
- Make sure iPhone/iPad and Kobo are on the same Wi-Fi network.
- Avoid guest networks that block device-to-device traffic.
- Restart the transfer server in the app and retry.
- If needed, restart Wi-Fi on both devices.
- If a pairing code is enabled, confirm the exact code on Kobo.
3. USB Transfer
Quick Start
- Connect Kobo to iPhone/iPad using USB-C.
- Open Transfer and choose USB.
- Tap Select Kobo Drive when prompted.
- Stage changes (send books, manage shelves), then sync.
Troubleshooting (USB)
- Use a data-capable cable (some cables are charge-only).
- Reconnect the cable and reselect the Kobo drive.
- Check available storage space on the Kobo.
- If the device disconnects, reconnect and refresh before syncing.
- If transfer fails for a file, verify the source file still exists on your device.
